Synopsis: My life was just like any other girl’s until the Maxwell corporate empire ruined my family and stole my future. I’d given up hoping to see justice done, but then the way to right this wrong was dropped in my lap. My job with an event planner can get me into the home of one of Maxwell’s business partners. I can find evidence of what they did to my father. I can make sure they pay. I wasn't expecting Sebastian. Sebastian has been hired for security, but he is also the son of the man I despise. I should hate Sebastian purely on principle. I shouldn’t care that he’s sweet and funny and sexy as hell. He’ll always be a Maxwell, and that means he’s my enemy.
I can’t help but want him anyway.
He seems to want me too, but only for a good time. He’s the son of privilege, and he’ll never be serious about me. He’ll also never betray his family. If he finds out what I’m really doing here, he’ll turn on me in an instant. He’ll keep me from finding justice.
It’s just that I keep finding him instead.

Review: This is the second book in the Protector's series, and it continues the four friends' stories with Sebastian. Sebastian comes from money, but he has been fighting his family's expectations of him his whole life, which is what led to his joining the military to begin with. He enlisted and became good friends with Gavin, Declan, Cole and Levi. Now, the group is down one after Gavin's death while on a mission. Each man is trying to figure out what his life looks like, now that their paths are taking different turns than what they had planned.
The remaining four guys have started a security business, and Sebastian has been asked to guard one of his father's friends. Sebastian and his friends are pretty insulted at the job, as it seems to be more of Sebastian's father humoring him and trying to blackmail him back into the family business. Sebastian begins to feel differently about the assignment, however, after he meets Ali. Ali is the assistant to the event planner that is planning a big event for the person that Sebastian is currently guarding.
Ali has her own reasons for being there, too, however. She has many reasons to distrust anyone associated with the Maxwell company, as her dad was laid off from there, as well as being completed denied any of his severance, retirement, vacation, etc. With this current event assignment, she is hopeful to find evidence that there were shady and illegal dealings that led to her father's situation. Sebastian keeps finding her and thwarting each of her attempts to find the information, however. She also has difficulty trusting Sebastian once she finds out his last name.
I enjoyed this book, as both characters really have to learn how to trust one another, and also how to not give up on someone just because they do not give you exactly what you want. Ali had to learn her value, even within her own family, and Sebastian had to prove his value to his father in order to break away from him. I can't wait to see what happens with the other guys!

Noelle handwrote her first romance novel in a spiral-bound notebook when she was twelve, and she hasn’t stopped writing since. Contemporary romance writer Samantha Chase released her debut novel, Jordan's Return, in November 2011.
