Fame is a bitch... And a half.
Being a big star has its perks, but Caden Carlisle is in love with his costar, Brooklyn Halloway, and the movie studio demands that they keep it under wraps to ensure big box office success.
Cade always disliked the spotlight, preferring to focus on the work, but coupled with the ruthless stalking of rabid paparazzi, the secrecy forced upon his new and fragile relationship, and the vindictive games of others, celebrity status turns into a curse.
Can the roller coaster of emotions bring them closer still, or will jealousy and distance rip them apart forever?
Kahlen Aymes turns up the heat and cranks up the angst in FAMOUS Novel Two; the continuation of Cade and Brook's incredible love story... Because there's more to fame than meets the eye.

It was only two blocks and it was 3 AM Tokyo time, but for us it was hours earlier. I didn't let go of her hand as I led her out of the club. It felt so good to have her by my side.
"Do you feel like walking?" I missed walking but in the States or at home, I didn't get enough of it since my career blew up.
"Sure. That sounds nice," she murmured as we left the bar. It was cool, but not overly so, and the rain had stopped.
I felt her free hand wrap around my bicep of the arm that held her hand, and her head came down on my shoulder. She let out a deep sigh, as we walked the few blocks back to the hotel.
"Are you doing okay with this, Brook? Being with me like this?" I could hear the desire in my voice as I leaned closer to whisper in her ear.
"Uh huh. I've really missed you." She raised her eyes to mine and the need in the blue depths shone like a beacon. She drew a shaky breath and let it out.
"Brook," I almost groaned. "I've missed you too. You were so beautiful today, and I loved how you flirted with me.” I smiled softly as I looked down into her face as we walked. “It was all I could do not to sweep you up in my arms right there in front of everyone. These last months have been hell, love."
I felt heat radiate between us, despite the coolness of the night as we drew near the front entrance of the hotel. I glanced down at Brook's face and saw that her brow was knitted in a frown.
I didn't say anything as we walked through the hotel and took the elevator up to the 23rd floor. Both of our rooms were on this floor and I wondered if she'd want me to join her in hers. My heart thumped harder as we got closer to her room. I didn't want to be presumptuous after all that had happened, but I desperately wanted more time with her.
Exactly what had happened? I reminded myself that I still didn't know.
Outside her room, I took her shoulders and turned her toward me. I wanted to take her in my arms and kiss her breathless, but knew we needed to talk first. I raised my hand to her face and placed a whisper soft kiss on her luscious pink lips. When I drew away, her chin lifted toward my mouth for another kiss and I gave it to her. This one was longer, lingering, our lips playing with each other. My body sprung to life, but my heart still ached over the abyss we’d had between us. I needed it resolved before I could make love to her.
My God. She tastes so good, all wine and sweetness. I felt my breath leave my body and fan over her face. Her eyes were closed as she raised her mouth toward mine, again.
"Brook. I want more time with you. What do you want?" I felt her tremble in my arms and step up on tiptoe to press her mouth to mine again. I could feel desire flood through me. Jesus, it had been so long since I touched her.
"Cade.” She said my name and it did something to me deep inside my soul. “I want you to come in with me." Maybe it was my imagination but she sounded like she was begging and I wouldn’t be able to deny her, even if I didn’t want to do as she asked.
I couldn't help myself, my mouth swooped to open hotly over hers and her arms instantly went around my neck and into my hair. Oh, there it was. I felt those gorgeous hands tugging in my hair, to pull my mouth even closer to hers. I pressed her up against the hotel room door as I devoured her, my tongue seeking the deepest recesses of her mouth. I couldn't get enough and my body strained against her, I pressed my hardness into her stomach and she moaned.
I drug my mouth from hers and placed my forehead on hers, both of us panting wildly. I struggled to get control of my breathing and the urges that were surging through every nerve and sinew of my body. Brook pressed her card key into my hand and I reached behind her to put it in the slot. My mouth ghosted and licked at hers as I heard the door click and I pushed it open behind her. My arm went around her waist and I lifted her with me through the door and her arms and legs went around my body.
"Oh God, Cade." My arm still around her waist, the other one went underneath her bottom as I carried her into the room. I buried my face in her hair as I kissed her neck and shoulders.
Trying to get in control of myself, I went to the bed and sat down with her still wrapped around me. I stroked her back. "Brook. I want you so much right now. So much. But baby, we should talk first."
I brought both of my hands into her hair and pulled her head back so I could look into her eyes. I nuzzled into her throat as I took a deep breath. "We need to talk," I whispered against her skin.
She shook her head as she buried her face in my shoulder, her hands stroking the back of my head. "Please, just make love to me. Just make love to me." My body surged at her words, but I wanted to get her back into my life... not just into my bed and I told her so.
I shook my head. "No Brook. Not until we talk. I want us back, every piece of us. Please talk to me. Why did you push me away? What did I do?"
She stiffened in my arms. "Please don't make me relive it! I can't. It hurts too much."

Caden Carlisle is a world-renowned superstar with good looks, million dollar movie deals and women throwing themselves at him wherever he goes. He has it all… but wants nothing more than a normal life without the paparazzi and glitz.
Brooklyn Holloway is an up and coming starlet with a solid head on her shoulders and her eyes wide open. It’s all about art for her and she isn’t looking to star in blockbuster films. She’s perfectly happy keeping a low profile and doing indie projects with a message.
When fate throws the two of them together on set; both are unprepared for their undeniable connection. Cade is drawn to Brook’s down-to-earth wholesomeness and she can’t help the irresistible pull of his good looks, sense of humor and chivalrous ways... So, when he begins to think he’s in love with her, resisting is next to impossible, despite being committed to someone else.
Only when filming ends and the world's fascination with celebrity invades their bubble, can they decide if the emotions they felt on set were scripted, or forever

Cade moved a little, as if to say something, and I put a finger to his lips as a tear fell from my eye. "I couldn't have done this with anyone else. You... brought me to life. Not just the character, but me. I've felt things with you, that... that I..." I stumbled over the words and shook my head, "...didn't even know were possible. I care about you more than you know."
I struggled to continue because I was crying softly. I sniffed back the tears as his hand tightened on mine again. "I'm really going to miss you." I felt a sob well up within my chest, threatening to break free. "I'll miss you, every day. I… um, I h-hope you'll al- always remember..." My voice caught and I had to stop for a minute to keep from sobbing. I took a ragged breath, my throat seriously aching.
He brought my hand to his mouth to kiss my palm, his breath hot against my skin. "Oh, Brook..." he sighed. “This is the worst bloody moment of my life. It’s hell.”
I nodded. "I brought you something to remember me by, but please don't open it until you get back to London," I said, wiping away my tears with my free hand. I offered him a tumultuous smile, but I could barely manage it through my misery.
He took the package and placed a hand lovingly on the top. His eyes closed and he sighed heavily.
"I don't need anything to remind me of you. I won't forget a single detail, not a single second of our time together here," he said softly. "But, thank you for wanting to leave me with some part of you. It means the world to me."
When his eyes opened, he set the package on the bed then knelt down in front of me. One of his arms wrapped around my body and the other came up to cup my face, his thumb caressing the line of my jaw. My skin tingled where he touched me and my heart ached at the tears in his eyes. My shoulders started to shake in silent sobs. It hurt so fucking bad.
"Brook." His beautiful blue eyes stared right into my heart. "You've always been stronger than me. You control your feelings so much better, than I." The corners of his mouth lifted in a sad smile as his fingers brushed along my jaw.
I gave a little laugh through my tears. "I'm not feeling very strong right now, Cade.” I took a shaky breath. "The only way I'm gonna get through this is to believe that we’ll still keep in touch with each other. I feel so close to you. I don't want to lose that." A tear slipped from my lashes and slid down my face.
"There will be things we'll need to do to promote the movie, so we'll be together again for some of it." His eyes searched my face as he spoke.
"I'm holding on to that. You’re so important to me." I swallowed hard and bit my lip against the pain.
"We will be together again, I promise. I don’t know how I’ll survive without seeing your beautiful face every day." I blushed at his words, and gave a shaky laugh, though my tears fell like rain.
I thought of my photo album gift, and knew now it was just what he would want.
"As the whole world will agree, you are the beautiful one." My eyes rose to his face. His strong features were flooded with a mixture of confusion, sadness and denial.
He would never believe how extraordinary he was. He couldn't see that he was amazing to everyone who met him and even millions who hadn't. "I've always found you beautiful. From afar, I mean. When I watched your movies. But, who you are inside," I placed my hand on his heart, "is the most beautiful part of you." I tried to brush a tear away with the other. “I expected you to be so different then you turned out to be.”
Suddenly his arms went around me and my hands came around his forearms as we stared into each other’s eyes.
"My God, Brook. I know you don't want me to say it, and I know I have no right, but if I don't, it feels like I'll die right here." His voice broke on the words, and my heart stopped. "I'm SO in love with you." He searched my face, trying to find an answer in my eyes. Tears were streaming down my cheeks as I put my hands up to hold his face.
"I love you..." he whispered, “and I don’t care if I’m going to hell for saying it out loud.” I could see how urgently he needed me to believe it. My heart thumped heavily and my breath caught, as I read the truth and emotion in his dark blue eyes.
"Cade." At that moment, he was the only thing that existed in my world. I breathed his name as I kissed his eyes, his nose, his cheeks and forehead so softly. I opened my eyes, and moved my mouth down to his lips, hovering over his mouth.
Our kisses had always been so restrained. While passionate, so much was held back. We never really let ourselves kiss each other like I knew we both wanted to. I placed a feather light kiss on his lips, and I felt him draw in his breath, as his lips moved gently with mine. The moment of hesitation was wondrous: a pivotal moment in the fabric of my life, the precipice. If I jumped off, it either could kill me, or fill my wings and lift me up to heaven.
I knew this was the time to let Cade see my true feelings, and to take what I could of him while I had the chance. I could feel my body and my voice trembling, as I finally asked for what I'd been wanting for months.
"Cade, will you kiss me goodbye? As you... not Ryan," I whispered against his lips.
He understood what I wanted, and his mouth crushed down on mine instantly, our lips parted, our tongues melding in deep, slow perfection. It was everything… and it wasn’t enough. As we kissed, we held each other tightly, our arms moving up and down each other's bodies, and into each other's hair, as our mouths devoured each other.
It was heaven. I never wanted the moment to end.
He pulled me closer, and I kissed him back so deeply that surely we would melt together. My tears and Cade’s mingled on our cheeks. Our kisses softened, still passionate and reverent. We couldn't bear to separate and continued to hold each other, still placing little lingering clinging kisses on each other's mouths as his hands cupped my face and he brushed my tears away with the pads of his thumbs. He took my lower lip between both of his and sucked on it lightly. I sighed into him, our breath meshing as he rested his forehead on mine.
I didn’t want to fight it anymore. I couldn’t.
How could I have ever questioned my feelings for this man? I loved him so much it stole my breath.

4.5 Stars

I have to say that this is one of the sweetest story I have ever read.  It is one that weaves and ebbs into a story of two friends struggling with their true feelings towards each other and the line beyond friendship neither one would cross. I have not read the Remembrance Trilogy so I am new to the works of Kahlen Aymes. It is my understanding that Julia and Ryan make an entrance and that is where their love story begins. I will continue reading this series to it finale to see where their story goes.

I must say that as much as I loved seeing them evade their relationship and true feelings for each other, I was frustrated with how Ryan was insecure about not pushing the limits of the friendship with Julia.  Because of Ryan, Julia suffers greatly due to the mixed signals, Ryan's endless hookups with other girls, while Julia's love is unwavering.  I really just wanted to shake both of them and say, "Wake up, and just tell each other how you feel!" Each day it becomes harder to separate the friends only with the feelings of love she has for him. They are inseparable, where one is the other is or they are texting. Can they become more than friends? Or will fate intervene?

 Blurb
When Ryan Matthews meets Julia Abbott for the first time at Stanford University, he immediately knows she will change his life.  They have an instant, unbreakable connection that goes beyond partying and palpable attraction.  Although his intelligence and good looks land him any girl he wants, Ryan hesitates to cross that line with Julia because she quickly becomes the best friend he’s ever had.

Both secretly in love, Ryan and Julia are terrified to take the chance that could mean the loss of the very person they don’t want to lose.  As the bond between them grows stronger, they are both miserable as they are forced to watch as they each date other people.  But will Ryan’s all-consuming jealousy and Julia’s deeply broken heart torment them enough to make one or both walk away?

Join Ryan and Julia on the beginning of the journey that has made Kahlen Aymes’ Remembrance Trilogy an international bestselling favorite among her readers.  This book was written after The Trilogy was finished due to an abundance of reader requests for more of Ryan and Julia’s story.

And so…
The Mad, Mad Love Begins…

Excerpt #1
Excerpt from Before Ryan Was Mine, The Remembrance Trilogy, Prequel, Copyright 2014, Kahlen Aymes, All Rights Reserved.

My beer slipped from my fingers, and I scrambled to catch it but it was being lifted by another set of slender fingers without the blazing red nails.  By the time my eyes shifted up and focused, Julia was leisurely taking a drink from my bottle.   Her hooded green eyes appraised me, with my date almost on my lap.  I barely noticed Leah because my attention was on Julia, and then her eyes shifted twelve inches right, landing on Leah.  Julia hated beer, but still here she was, stamping her ownership with something as simple as a pull on my beer bottle.   She probably didn’t even know the effect it had on me at such a base level, but I fucking loved it.  Something tightened deep inside my chest, and my dick twitched inside my jeans.
“Ryan!  Are you gonna let her do that?”  Leah demanded indignantly, her eyes flashing haughtily up at Julia.
My lips raised in the slightest smirk.  Julia echoed it when her eyes locked with mine.
“Yeah, she… uh, she can do that,” I confirmed without emphasis.  Amusement at Julia’s confidence made me want to laugh out loud.  I felt fucking elated.
Leah huffed beside me and angrily flung herself back against the cushions of the couch, removing her leg from mine.  “Well, do you know her?”
“Yeah. Yeah, I know her.”  Boy, do I know her.
Julia wobbled a little, and I could see she’d had more to drink than she needed.  Still, she grinned at me, her arm bent at the elbow as she curled my beer close to her chest, not drinking, just holding it in place.  My instinct was to reach out or stand up to steady her.
Angrily, Leah pushed on my shoulder and spewed venom in Julia’s direction.  “Are you going to introduce us?  Is she your sister?”
Julia started to giggle.  “Pffft!  Do I look like his sister?”
“Then who are you?” my date demanded, her expression hard.  I watched the exchange, anxious to see what Julia would say.
“Oh, we’re ….”  She handed back my beer and walked behind me to sit on the top edge of the back of the couch and slid her hand over the shoulder Leah had shoved.  “Well, let’s see… we’re…  mmmm...”  Her words were nonchalant but her eyes widened, waiting for me to finish the sentence.  “What exactly are we, Ryan?”
“This is my best friend Julia.  Jules, this is Leah.”  I said the words carefully, but couldn’t tear my eyes from Julia’s face.  Her features were filled with laughter and devilry.
“His date,” Leah spat.
“Congratulations.”  Julia focused on Leah and wagged a finger in her direction.  She was clearly tipsy.  “You need a donut.”
A laugh burst from my chest because I couldn’t help myself.  You need a donut. I thought it was fucking hilarious, but Leah was clearly pissed.
“What did you say?”
“You seriously need a donut.”
Leah looked indignant and furious, but my shoulders were visibly shaking with laughter when Julia turned her attention to me. “Can I talk to you for a sec?”
“Excuse me,” I murmured to Leah then immediately rose to follow Julia a few feet away.  “Are you being careful?”
“Is it just a coincidence that you and Twiggy are here tonight?”
I swallowed at the accusation in her tone.  She was tipsy, but her eyes still burned into mine.  “Yeah.  I had no idea you were even going out, but I’m glad I’m here.  Who is that guy?”  I wanted to ask why she let him touch her in such a familiar way but clamped my jaw shut.
“He’s a guy.  Collin, I think?  No big deal.”  She shrugged nonchalantly, and her hand came to rest on the front of my shirt.  I should have been reassured as her deep green eyes looked up imploringly.  “Don’t worry, Ryan.”
It was all I could do not to cover her fingers with my own.  “I worry.”
“I know.”  She leaned in and wrapped her arms around my waist in a brief hug and the scent of her perfume engulfed me.  “I’m glad to see you.  I’ll call you tomorrow.”

Excerpt #2
~Ryan
The biggest moment of my life found me unexpectedly.  It crept up softly, and settled around me like a fuzzy blanket.  A mere whisper; it hit me like a sledgehammer.  At the time, I knew it was significant, but I didn’t realize just how those few seconds would change absolutely everything: how one brief glance could leave such an indelible stamp on the remainder of my life.  It would become a contradiction; an unstoppable force that would send me reeling out of my control, churning and shredding my emotions, but create the most incredible contentment I’d ever feel.  Contentment that could wrap me up in a warm, safe place or devastate me to the core and leave my heart in shambles.  It would become years of want and pain, lust and love… It would hurt like the deepest hell, but become the most euphoric and precious ecstasy I’d ever know.  I’d never forget that day, that moment; that glance.
It would wreck me.  It would make me.
