Review: I was provided an ARC of this book by the author in order to provide my honest review. We begin with Mason, who was seemingly wrongly accused of raping someone and being imprisoned for several years. He has spent the past year planning his revenge on his accuser - Kat. We then meet Kat, who has recently broken up with her boyfriend, after finding out that he was cheating on her and using her for his doormat. Kat is pretty much broke, however, and looking at having nowhere to go once her lease on her apartment is up for the month. None of that matters, however, once Mason gets his hands on her.
Mason kidnaps Kat and begins his plan of revenge on her. He does not plan to harm her physically, as he feels that that is where all of this began, and he also experienced enough abuse to himself, while in prison. His plan for Kat is mental anguish, in the form of humiliation and long term manual labor and forced confinement - she basically becomes his slave.
Through each day and week, however, Mason and Kat begin to see who the other person is underneath. This part seemed to move pretty slowly to me, for the most part. I kept wanting to know what was going to happen next and when it would happen. I began to see that Mason is a good guy, but he is absolutely convinced that Kat is the one that falsely accused him of rape and ruined his life. She, on the other hand, is convinced that it was not her, yet she can't convince him of that. As the two grow closer together, they both try to look past what happened to Mason and who Kat is to him.
There is an unexpected twist at the end that I did not see coming. It really helped move the story forward, as I had begun to wonder how Mason and Kat could ever move past the rape accusation. I do wish that there was a little more steam between the two, as they had great chemistry together.
