Review: Collecting the Pieces by L.A. Fiore

Collecting the Pieces
by L.A. Fiore.

At fifteen I fell in love. His name was Jake Stephens and he took the abandoned, lonely girl I had been and made me whole. His love was a pure and unconditional love that made every day better than the last…a fairy tale of my very own.
But this story isn’t about Jake. It’s about Abel Madden; the man I meet after the fairy tale goes to hell. A cocky, arrogant man who says what he wants, does as he pleases, and makes no excuses for it. He irritates me—downright pisses me off at times—but he also brings me back to life.
My name is Sidney Ellis and this is my story of finding love twice—the first when I needed it most and the second when I never saw it coming.

Review:
Collecting the Pieces is a very sweet story about a girl named Sidney Ellis who is left abandoned as an infant on the steps of a hospital.  Sidney, baby number 3 as she was known,  was given a name by a nurse in the hospital.  After that time, Sidney was lost in the system, constantly being shifted from home to home only to eventually land in the Millers' home at age 10; a home without love.  She was expected to by self-sufficient and pretty much take care of herself.  While there, she meets her brother Connor, another child fostered by the Millers.  Connor took care of her and giving her the love she so badly wanted from someone and to simply belong....

Sidney fell in love with Jake Stephens at fifteen while in high school.  Jake was beyond perfect and Sidney thought yet again she didn't deserve him.  Jake was captain of the football team and had wealthy parents and was from a very loving home.  He was the air she breathed!!

As the story progresses, things occur and the rug is jerked out from under your feet.  This fairy tale quickly turns into an unending nightmare for Sidney and Jake's family.  Years pass, yet Sidney still holds on to what was...not moving on, not letting anyone else in, drowning...

Sidney and her best friend decide to move out west and begin a new journey together, taking over a veterinary's office of a retiring doctor.  They both meet many new friends, as well as the possibility of new men entering their lives.  Moving from Jake's perfection to an unknown, sexual attraction that pulls you like a moth to a flame, Sidney is unsure of if she can allow to pierce that built up wall she has built in order to protect her heart.  Through the chemistry and attraction, Abel shows up at the exact time Sidney needs him to, to rescue her, and her him....

Loved this book...lots of great emotions and warm feelings.  The story was easily read and quickly devoured!!!  I look forward to more from this author!!
