When two dark souls connect the draw is too dominant to ignore and the obsession of owning the only color to brighten my dark world too unrelenting to not obey. I left her alone so she could live a normal life but I was weak, how can she live a normal life after so much sinister chaos invaded her world, summoning her own darkness to the surface? The depraved devil that is me now had an anchor, someone to venture into the black abyss with. Normal wasn’t a path ever set for Cereus. She was her Father’s daughter but my soul mate, even if I disputed ever owning one. She was struggling without me in her life, the vacant ache inside her leaking out. I can’t not go to her, the need is too strong and like with all of my urges I embrace it.
I want to say for those readers who can't do "dark" that you are totally missing out on an amazing series. I feel totally in love with Ker Dukey and her dark stories. This series is full of twists and turns, you don't know what will happen when you turn the page, or from chapter to chapter. She keeps you guessing the entire time. To understand the characters and why they are like they are, the series must be read in order: Empathy, Desolate, and Vacant.
"Some people use a blade for evil, some people use their tongues which are sharper and make people bleed better than any knife can. Some people are born dark, others become it."
In Vacant, it is a continuation of Desolate. It gives more details on Ryan and his story after the fire. Ryan is very unlike any other character I've read. He makes you question your sanity as he pulls you to the dark side and into the shadows. There is a very strong connection between Ryan and Cereus. He knows how Cereus feels and where her mind goes when she sinks into the shadows...a solid understanding because she is like him. Dukey makes your mindset go toward a very taboo subject...incest. Does this happen??? Guess you will have to read to find out. Don't miss the conclusion to their story. Get it while you can.
"Soul mates are not supposed to tame each other, they’re meant to set you free to run wild in your nature, to be who you are together."
